About NIOS

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. Originally launched as a pilot project by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), it became an independent board in 1989. NIOS offers flexible education through open schooling, distance learning, and online education, catering to students who cannot attend regular schools due to personal, financial, or professional constraints.
